Location, Location, Location...

The location for the final images is just as important as everything else. If the location is not right it won’t matter how good the costume, hair, makeup, or prosthetics are, because the location will let the whole scene down. For this reason, the artist has spent a considerable amount of time searching for the perfect locations. Along with her team for each shoot, they have been discussing and looking for locations that match the overall story they wish to tell within the images. This has meant some very wet, windy and cold days out for all involved.

Location 1 – Merrow Shoot

This location was most likely the easiest location to source. The artist wanted a beach with rock pools that would allow for a shoot in the sea, on the rock pools and then on the beach. After searching several locations, the artist chose 2 possible locations which she and the team will visit scout locations for all 3 shots. The 2 locations chosen are Reighton Beach and Thornwick Bay Beach & Rock Pools.

Reighton is a beach North of Flamborough, and just below Reighton Sands caravan park. There are several rock formations along the beach which could be good for the desired look. However, the artist will need to scout for a location as well as research into the tidal patterns to avoid any incidents during the shoot.

Thornwick Bay beach and rock pools are in Flamborough also. This beach does not have a lot of sand and he’s quite secluded which drew the artist to it as she feels this would be a good place for America to emerge from the sea unseen. Again, the artist will need to scout this location Allah as well as research the tidal patterns.

Location 2 - Goblin Shoot

For this location, the artist wanted either a woodland area or a lake surrounded by woodlands. After searching the artist and her team came across Greno woods in Sheffield and knew this was the perfect location for this shoot. With its vast number of wooded areas and treetop views to the fact, it has a den building area. It was the perfect location for her goblin to set up home.

Location 3 – Fairy Queen Shoot

This location was possibly the most fun to look for as again the artist had a clear view of what she required for her 2 fairy queens. She finally settled on Flamborough Head and Whitby Abby.

Flamborough Head has a beautiful white Benton cliff which is a picturesque backdrop for the blue dress fairy queen. Several cliff walks could be used as the possible shooting location keeping the white cliffs in the background. The artist and her team will go and scout several locations on the cliff walk to potentially use in her final images.

The artist also chose Whitby Abbey ruins as they give the perfect backdrop for the main image of the warrior fairy queen. The ruins themselves give off a war-torn setting that will complement the warrior Queen. However, it could also be the setting for the blue dress portrait. For this reason, the artist in a team will scout this location for several spots to shoot in. She will also need to seek whether they need permission to shoot there and if so, gain permission.

Location 4 – Banshee Shoot

This location was a little harder to source than the others as the artist has a clear vision in her mind. This involved a large field with long grass and a house sat in the middle, with nothing else around for miles. Which as you can imagine Yorkshire shouldn’t be too hard to find, however, it was extremely hard to find. So instead, the artist had to alter her final vision for this look slightly and go for something a little different such as an abandoned house or ruins. This changed the search parameters which lead to Stainborough Castle Folly Wentworth, which is a beautiful castle situated within glorious woodlands and gardens. It’s a grade1 registered landscape and permission must be obtained before shooting there. Discussion for the shoot is currently underway with the national trust.

The artist has also considered other alternative locations if for any reason these locations do not work or permission is not given. However, she hopes that they will not be required.
