The Question....
The question the artist has gone with is ‘When have Folklore & Mythology characters been used as inspiration inTV & Film’
The focus for this question is on the research which goes into the designing and creation of characters within the TV & Film industry. How do directors and designers create the characters for TV & Film based on Mythologies and Folklore and how much they are influenced by research. This will give them a good insight into how these characters are brought to life and better prepare them for a career within the industry themselves. Allowing them an early insight into what it takes to be a designer.
The answer to this question will allow the artist to better understand how Folklore & Mythology is interoperated in modern-day TV & Film through characters. Are the characters depicted correctly and accurate to how Folklore and Mythology describe them? Or are they the makeup designers and directors’ interpretation of what they think or feel the characters should look like? How do they agree on what they will look like and what processes do they go through until they reach the final character look?
To get the answers to the question the artist will interview 4 industry professionals, 2 directors and 2 makeup designers will be contacted for an interview to get their insight into this topic and question. They can then go on to highlight the importance of accurate research with the TV & Film industry for character design, based on the information obtained within the interviews.
From this question, they can go on to create their characters based on their research and produce 4-character designs fit for TV & Film. Will these designs be accurate to what Folklore and Mythology depict them to be or will the artist go on to put their twist on them? Maybe they will do a little of both creating their vision for their characters accurate to Folklore & Mythology.
