Welcome to the mad house!!!
This year will follow the progress of the artist as they work to complete their BA in Media Makeup, Special Effects and Hair Design. This year is going to be a very full on and exciting (yes possibly stressful as well) year. One which the artist will have to build on new skills such as time management, project management and teamwork.
The artist has a lot to contend with this year. First, they must contend with the Ethics board before they can complete any primary research!! Then they must submit a plan and proposal on their desired topic and 4 final image ideas. Alongside this they will also be required to write a business essay and full business plan to which all have only a few short months to be completed. To round off the year they will have a lovely dissertation to write on the whole process along with a photography unit to complete and 4 final images.
On top of all that, this year the artists will take on their biggest role to date. That is the role of Hair & Makeup Designer. This will be their title for the entire length of their major project and most possibly the hardest role they have had to date. The artist will have to plan for everything including project and time management to achieve the best from their time. They need to be conscious of what they are doing week by week as this year is all about independent study and artist led tutor time. This means that the tutors on the course won’t be telling them what to do week in and week out that is all down to the artist now. They want to see how independent the artist can become when left to be designer of their own projects and looks.
Time management is an extremely important skill to have when it comes to independent learning and the artists will need to manage their time correctly to maintain a steady workload. Planning for their projects and making sure every minute of their time is used wisely. We will discuss more on time and project management a little later and how best approach both.
Time and project management are paramount to making sure the artist completes all work and designs within the time frame allowed, allowing for the small hiccups which may occur and having a plan b can guarantee a smooth-running project.
The artists will also have to collaborate with other industry professionals such as models, photographers, costume designers, set designers, graphic designers, and possible other artists as they may also require an extra set of hands for some of the work. So, the artist will not only have to manage their own schedule and time, but they will also be expected to work and communicate well with their team as well to keep things running smoothly. Maintaining good communication to help keep the project on track allowing for a smooth transition and completion date.
The artist is really being put through their paces this year and making them really work for that qualification (more like kill them for it ha-ha) but this will naturally prepare them for the next step in their career. Weather that be their master’s degree or going out into industry they will need to have good project and time management skills to work well in the industry.
The artist will be challenged in many ways this year and will be pushed to their limits to achieve some amazing final images both in makeup and photography. They will be guided along the way by the tutors so that they don’t try something too adventurous with the time they have available. But ultimately this year will make or break them as artists allowing them to shape themselves into the best artists they can possibly be.
Hopefully the artists make it out of this year alive (ha-ha or at least somewhat sain)
